What's new in Port Byron

On May 4 we opened the doors to our new branch building at 105 N. High Street. The new building is just up the hill from where the former branch sits and now features a more accessible drive thru featuring two ITM lanes. The tabs below explain more about the ITMs as well as plans for a ribbon cutting celebration.

Ribbon Cutting Festivities

A ribbon cutting ceremony is set for Wednesday, May 24, 2023 at 1:30 p.m. for Blackhawk Bank & Trust’s new building located at 105 N. High Street in Port Byron, IL. The new branch facility officially opened its doors to customers on May 4.

While the building may be new, the bank’s presence in Port Byron is not. Prior to acquisition in 2015, Port Byron State Bank had been part of the community since 1863; making it the second oldest bank in the state of Illinois. When Blackhawk Bank & Trust acquired Port Byron State Bank, they saw the need to update and modernize the banking facilities.

“We wanted to invest in this community and update the banking facility in Port Byron, and we’ve done so in the name of accessibility. This new branch is conveniently located right off Route 84 and now features two lanes with ITM drive thru service, which is an improvement from the drive thru lane that existed before,” shared Jim Huiskamp, President of Blackhawk Bank & Trust.

While the new building features some of the latest in banking technology, historical items from the former branch building have been preserved such as the original vault door and former rolltop desk of the original bank president. Additionally, customers will recognize the same familiar team, led by Branch Manager Julie Hager.

“This new branch is unique because while we pay tribute to the history of banking with the preserved vault door and the artwork showcasing local history, up on the teller line and at the new drive thrus we are using some of the newest technology to be introduced to the banking world,” added Huiskamp.

The public is invited for a brief ceremony and to tour the facility at the ribbon cutting set for May 24.

Frequently Asked ITM Questions

What is an ITM?

ITMs combine the ease and convenience of an ATM with a live teller experience. Each ITM will include a video screen that connects customers in real time with a Blackhawk Bank & Trust teller providing face-to-face service throughout your transaction. The teller will then assist you in completing your transaction and answer any questions you may have about your accounts.

What kind of transactions can I do with an ITM?

From either your vehicle or walk-in locations, our ITMs allow you to perform most transactions of a traditional in-branch teller, including:

  • Access your Blackhawk Bank & Trust accounts and loans
  • Cash Checks
  • Withdraw cash
  • Deposit cash or checks
  • Transfer funds between your accounts
  • Make a loan payment
  • Make a credit card payment
  • Make inquiries
  • View account balances

How do ITMs work?

When you select a teller-assisted transaction, your teller will appear on-screen for a two-way video session. They are able to assist you with the same transactions that you usually conduct at the bank.

Can an ITM be used as an ATM?

Yes, all ITMs have 24/7 full-service ATM capabilities. Insert your Blackhawk Bank & Trust debit card to get started. While operating as an ATM, with an ITM you can withdraw cash, transfer funds and even make check/cash deposits.

How is an ITM different from an ATM?

An ITM brings you the latest in banking convenience, combining the traditional functionality of an ATM with a video teller. ITMs allow you greater self-service options, plus the ability to speak with a live teller via video to complete your transaction.

What are the benefits of using an ITM?

The ITMs offer an improved experience with shorter wait times, face-to-face interactions, additional privacy, a simpler transaction flow and faster service.

Are ITM tellers Blackhawk Bank & Trust employees?

Yes, all interactive tellers are Blackhawk Bank & Trust employees.

What can't an ITM do?

You can't open an account, apply for a loan, purchase a cashier’s check, money orders, license stickers, or rolled coin.

  When is the ITM available?

The ITM operates 24/7 with teller assistance available during normal banking hours. After hours, you may still utilize the ITM for self-service transactions.

Are there limitations to an ITM?

Yes, because the machine is reading your currency, the ITM will reject cash or checks that are wrinkled, torn, or creased. The machine may also reject old money that does not have the current security features. For deposits, the ITMs at our FastBank location can accept up to 100 bills and 50 checks. For deposits with more than that number of items, please see a teller inside the branch.

Are deposits processed the same as it is when using an in-branch teller?

Your deposit will be processed in the same way, whether you visit a traditional teller in a branch or a video teller at the ITM.

What happens when a check is cashed or a deposit is made into the ITM?

Using our ITMs is as easy as visiting a teller inside one of our branches. There are no envelopes or deposit slips needed, you insert the check(s) or cash directly into the deposit slot. For cash, the machine reads and counts each bill and displays the deposit amount on the screen for verification.

  Can the ITM accept coin?

Similar to ATM functionality, the ITMs cannot accept coin.

Are conversations on an ITM private and secure?

With our ITMs, you and your teller can see and hear each other using a video camera with a built-in speaker. Your conversation is just as private as if you were talking to a teller through a speaker at our traditional drive-ups, but with one difference: you also have the option to plug in headphones to the machine for even more privacy.

Banking with an ITM is just as secure as if you were doing a teller transaction in one of our branches. Our video tellers will use authentication procedures before processing any transactions.
